KAKEN TEST CENTER (headquarters: Tokyo, Japan) is the largest textile testing laboratory of Japan and was established in 1948 by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan. At the time of its establishment, Kaken was engaged in inspection of synthetic fibers for export and import, but has since expanded its business to include textile and apparel testing services. We are accredited by Japan National Laboratory Association (JNLA), ISO 17025 and ISO 9001. We provide testing and inspection services in a wide range of fields, including textiles (yarns, fabrics and finished products), leather, paper, resins such as rubber and plastics, and other industrial materials to Japanese large and small companies, manufacturers, retailers and brands. We also dedicated to research and development to establish testing methods for newly developed performance textiles. Some of our inhouse methods have been adopted by international standards. We also provide restricted substances testing and supporting our clients to maintain their RSL (Restricted Substances List) with our knowledge regarding global chemical regulations.

We know the Higg Index inside out and offer training about all its modules: BRM – Brand and Retail Module, FEM – Facility Environmental Module, FSLM – Facility Social and Labor Module, MSI – Materials Sustainability Index and PM – Product Module. We also develop individual training programmes; for instance, supplier trainings as part of chemical management or Higg FEM improvement programmes.

SGS has joined ZDHC as a contributor and has been an Approved Training Provider (ATP) right after the launch of ZDHC Academy, the training platform under ZDHC program.

All of our trainers across our global network are experienced to provide their technical advice during the training. They are equipped with many hours of training experiences on chemical management, capable of delivering key concepts and communicate efficiently with local language.

SGS has also maintained internal communications between different parties supporting various ZDHC services, such as wastewater and MRSL formulation testing. UL’s Sustainable Chemistry and Supply Chain Management Services UL has been a contributor to the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme since 2017, supporting a vision of widespread implementation of sustainable chemistry and best practices in the textile, leather and footwear industries to protect consumers, workers and the environment.

Wastewater and sludge analysis in connection with the ZDHC Gateway — Wastewater Module. UL has laboratories in Europe, Africa and Asia that are provisionally accepted by ZDHC for this service. Level 1 certification to ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (ZDHC MRSL) helps demonstrate that chemical formulations used in a product’s manufacture do not contain any restricted ZDHC MRSL banned substances Education on chemical management and wastewater topics. UL presents official ZDHC trainings in live classrooms or via online webinars to fashion and luxury brands and their global supply chains in different languages.
Advisory services to implement good practices, think about corrective and preventive actions that prevent management issues, avoid nonconformity with the MRSL and help reduce risks and accidents in the workplace UL has collaborated with UNIDO and ZDHC under the SwitchMed Program, an initiative funded by the European Union, to promote a circular economy in the Mediterranean by changing the way goods and services are produced and consumed.

Industry manufacturers, international brands operating in Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco, joined a series of ZDHC official trainings presented by UL to deepen their knowledge about sustainable chemical management, environmental impact, mitigation measures and wastewater quality. Thanks to Process Factory experience in supporting the ZDHC roadmap implementation through the CHEM 4sustainability® protocol, we have been approved as ZDHC Training Provider and ZDHC InCheck Verifier.

4sustainability® is a registered trademark that guarantees the sustainability performances of the fashion & luxury supply chain through an innovative framework aligned with the best methodologies and standards, based on 6 key-initiatives.

As ZDHC Training Provider, we regularly collaborate with ZDHC for the development of new face-to-face and online courses.

Since 2016, Process Factory has been organising dozens of highly professional sessions at both basic and advanced levels. The international certificate of Chemical Management issued directly by ZDHC on passing the final exam has a validity of two years.

There are five types of sessions that Process Factory is currently organising thanks to its unique experience in the classroom and the field:

The duration and format of each session depends on the way in which it is administered: 4 or 8 hours in a single day for classroom-based sessions, two-and-a-half-hour slots spread over three consecutive days for remote sessions.

Next to the normal training sessions, Process Factory also offers, tailor-made, private sessions for individual organisations. These sessions can be organised face-to-face or as remote training sessions and are reserved exclusively for the organisation’s staff and/or suppliers. These sessions are hosted on the ZDHC Academy platform and can only be accessed by people indicated by the company. The agenda is then defined in close collaboration with Process Factory.

This is an opportunity which not only allows the training to be calibrated to specific goals but also permits the direct involvement of company suppliers, maximising the advantages that only a process shared between the various components of the supply chain can really guarantee.
